Program Description Centennial College's Culinary Skills program is well-rounded and takes just one year to complete. This college certificate program emphasizes the foundation of culinary skills while sourcing local food products from around Ontario and learning the art of seasonal cooking. You will learn to prepare exquisite menus and dishes inspired by global food trends and flavours from industry-leading chef faculty. These dedicated instructors will provide you with the learning experience you need to succeed by helping you to understand that a career in the culinary field is fueled by passion and rewarded through skill development. You will receive hands-on training to master culinary fundamentals, ingredients, food preparation and all of the other skills needed to enter this exciting industry. This training takes place in culinary labs, including Centennial College's cafe, restaurant and event centre to ensure you hone your skills before entering the workplace. Upon successful program completion, you will obtain important industry certifications such as Smart Serve, Safe Food Handlers and CPR, which will increase your employability. Program Highlights: This Culinary Skills program offers you exclusive experiential learning opportunities in new state-of-the-art kitchens, bake labs, restaurant, a cafe and event centre. You learn from instructors who have years of industry experience. The hands-on practice in a range of settings ensures you are prepared for multiple facets of the industry. Graduates of the Culinary Skills program can transition directly into the Culinary Management diploma program. It’s Your Shift Training and Awareness Program: The program includes an innovative industry training and awareness certification – It’s Your Shift. The certification equips students with the crucial knowledge and provides current resources focused on sexual harassment prevention and safe practices for intervention as frontline workers or managers. It will support graduates as they enter the hospitality industry to become leaders for the prevention of sexual harassment and contribute to the evolution of safe and welcoming work environments. The Ocean Wise Program: The School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts and The Local Cafe and Restaurant use delicious and ocean-friendly Ocean Wise products. Ocean Wise is a conservation and education program that works with chefs, restaurants and seafood suppliers to help them with sustainable seafood sourcing. Feast On® Certification: Centennial College's School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts has become the first academic institution to receive Feast On® certification for its sourcing of local food and beverage products used in the academic programs, as well as purchased for the school's experiential-learning foodservice operations. Feast On is a certification program established by the Culinary Tourism Alliance that recognizes businesses committed to sourcing Ontario grown and produced food and drink.
